Holding the hotel booking peak of the Paris 2024 Olympics and the Rugby World Cup 2023: 750 million requests a day today.

## The problem

Paris 2024 Olympics, Rugby World Cup 2023: when sales open, crowds book a hotel at the same time and traffic explodes within minutes.

## The constraint

One minute of downtime means rooms go to someone else.

## What I did

1. **The wave arrives.** Traffic shoots up when sales open.
2. **The load is spread.** Load balancers distribute visitors across several servers.
3. **Servers scale out.** New servers start on their own to follow demand.
4. **Databases absorb it.** The databases take in every booking recorded.

## The result

The platforms held through both events. Today, 750 million requests a day.
