Leadership galaxy Case 3 of 7

Three hires, three paths, one team that keeps growing

The problem

A technical team does not grow by itself, and every hire arrives with a different level and a different story.

The constraint

Bring very different profiles up to speed without making the service depend on one person.

What I did

01

An apprentice

I welcome an apprentice, I train them, and they join the team permanently.

02

A first job

I hire someone for whom it is a first job, and I coach them step by step.

03

Ten years on Windows

I hire someone for Linux who has ten years of experience on Windows.

04

A team that writes

I get the team to document: guides, READMEs, well-organised repositories. The knowledge stays in the team.

A level gauge rises for each one, the last one faster. Three documents, READMEs, guides and repositories, connect the three hires and form shared knowledge.leadapprenticepermanentfirstjobWindowsto LinuxREADMEguidesreposshared knowledge

The result

Three people hired and brought up to speed. The hire who came from Windows progressed very fast thanks to their documentation, their READMEs and the way they organised the repositories (automation, deployment).
